I've searched the FAQ for SiteBuilder and could not find any information on this, so here goes. I already have a well developed web site, but was interested in using some of the SiteBuilder functionality/templates. Does SiteBuilder automatically write its files to the public_html folder (using index.html, etc.), or can I specify where the files should go? I don't want to destroy any of my existing web pages.

Thanks,

Steve

Site builder creates one or two files in public_html (index.shtml, and sites.txt)

The site you create with site builder will be placed in the folder _mxgroot.

Index.shtml just redirects the browser to _mxgroot.

When publishing your site, you do not have the option of choosing the folder to publish to...

Sitebuilder does not delete your current index.___ file or any other files (unless they are in the _mxgroot folder), it just renames your current index file...

Hope this helps you out a little bit!

Thanks hcfyouth. That helps. By the sound of it I should probably make sure I have a backup first. Then again, that's not a bad idea anyway! :)

Siteground can make a backup for you... free!

I found this out after I messed up some things...

Would have made things so much simpler if I had only known!.

Hello everybody :)

The SiteBuilder creates three files in the public_html directory (your webroot). Those are

index.shtml (contains a redirect to the Builder's directory)
sites.txt
sites.js

Please do not delete these as that may disrupt SiteBuilder's work and be the cause for errors.

The SiteBuilder creates a directory, named _mgxroot in the public_html folder. All the images and the HTML files for the respective pages are placed there. If you do have the upgraded version, you will be able to specify directories for your extra websites (the Pro Builder allows for multiple websites to be created).

When the SiteBuilder-generated website is published, you will see a message, that says your current

index.*

file is renamed to

prezen_index.*

No files EVER get overwritten - we have made sure this does not happen before actually installing the Builder on 9 of our servers :)

Please remember the number of extra backups that we do is limited, since the server resources are limited (specifically disk space, and also a backup procedure takes extra processor time and pose additional load to the server, which affects all accounts, hosted on the server).

I hope this helps ;)
