I've been a Mvelopes subscriber for around 6 months now. Mvelopes is basically an online envelope budget system. I really like the envelope system, and have gotten fairly addicted to the ability to update it anywhere.

I have been using Mvelopes for two months, and it has saved me bundles - making me stick to a budget like no other financial software has. However, it has one downfall. It is server-side software, which means that if their server goes down, you have no way of accessing your information. There is no way to back up your information on your computer. Granted, there are some reports that you can print out, but nothing that is so detailed that it could be a viable backup source - plus, even if there was, you'd have to be printing the backups out fairly regularly, which to me is an inconvenience.

How likely is it that Mvelopes would have the kind of server issue that I'm talking about? Well, it's been a week and a day since I've been able to access mine, due to an error on their server. This hasn't affected everyone, but I've been told by tech support that there are a few accounts that have been affected. They haven't been able to guarantee to me that all my information will be there for me when it begins functioning again, either. They told me in my last conversation that they would reimburse me for lost time, but I initially subscribed for a two-year membership, and the follow-up email I received from them said that they would postpone my next bill for one month. So, in September of 2007 I'll be reaping the rewards.

I guess the best testimony of how I feel about Mvelopes is that I am still hoping it gets up and running again in the next few days, as promised. I'll continue using it, just because it is an amazing system that really works for my husband and me. However, if it ever goes down for this long again, I'll be asking for a refund and figuring something else out.

I personally look after my family budget and all spending items need to be accounted for so that at any point in time you know where you are. Requires discipline but that's the only way.

Hello all,

I have been using Mvelopes for several months now and absolutely love how I can <a href="http://www.mvelopes.com/">manage my family's money</a> in a whole new way. For example, it is not so much budgeting as it is knowing how much you have to spend and allocating that pool of money into different buckets or here envelopes. The online feature lets you really manage where your money is coming and going.

One poster stated they had techincal issues because it is server side. I have never had any problems with it and their customer support has always been very supportive and helpful. So it may just be bad luck.

Overall, their service is absolutely wonderful and has made me realize how much money I was throwing away each month - it was a wake up call.

They still have a free trial going on for 30 days for which I highly recommend people trying. It takes a little effort in setting up the online bill pay but it is WELL WORTH IT!
