I hope this is the correct forum in which to ask my question -

I've read most of the info in the FAQs re: Mambo, and am still a little confused about its purpose (my newbie status is showing!). I am currently using Moodle on two sites. Is Mambo used for a similar purpose? I feel that I have different needs for different sites and am trying to determine which tool is best, including SiteBuilder. Is it mainly an issue of independence/control over content?

I've read forum posts that discuss photo galleries in Mambo, and am interested in putting up one site that my tour group could use to post & share photos from our recent tour. Would Mambo be a good option for this? My learning curve on Moodle was steep, so I don't really want to get into another situation where I'm having to learn something new (time, you know?) at this point.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Hi,
I can see that what you need is
putting up one site that my tour group could use to post & share photos from our recent tour.
I can offer you 2 different options:

1. Mambo plus Zoom Gallery - Mambo would allow you to have content/news on your site and Zoom Gallery will help you with the photos. You will have admin rights and you can allow your users to upload pictures. Here is the full list of zOOm Gallery features (http://www.siteground.com/zOOm_Gallery-features.htm).

I can see that you are a bit frightened from Mambo. Mambo is a good script and is not that scary ;). You can find a really wonderful tutorial for Mambo here: Mambo Tutorial (http://siteground.com/tutorials/mambo/mambo_introduction.htm)

The other option (I think the better one for your needs) is:

2. Gallery -
Gallery is an easy tool especially created for Albums/Photos.

With Gallery you start off with only one user, the Administrator (login name:admin). This account can do anything with Gallery. Typically you'll want to use the admin to create other users (which can also be administrators if you want).
Users can be granted permission to create and maintain their own albums on a per-album basis.
Users can also self-register and sign up for e-mail notification when things in the Gallery change.

Here are Gallery Features (http://www.siteground.com/Gallery-features.htm).

When you make your choice and set up the new account, please make sure to contact the techs if you need assistance with the installation of either script.

Good luck
