I've had various databases created from scripts for phpbb, joomla etc and I don't think I've ever been given the passwords? Is this right?

i don't have those passwords too. i had to figure it out for myself, i.e. reading configs etc. even setup- or config pages for installed scripts. for improvement - one address i still haven't figured out webmaster@mysubdomain.mydomain.com - SG could email all relevant data for each installation account - or make them available online in the customer area.

i ended up raising a call for this. I'd seen the passwords in the config files but assumed that they were encrypted...apparently not!

Hello,

Actually the password for databases automatically installed through Fantastico are generated by cPanel. The Fantastico installer is not designed to provide them to the customer when he is performing the installation.

As it was mentioned you can access the configuration file for the application and check the password. Also these passwords are not encrypted but randomly generated strings of characters. Note that the configuration files cannot be accessed by anyone who doesn't know the cPanel username and password for the account due to the permissions set for the configuration files.
