Can't install other sites in subdirectories

I have drupal installed in my root directory, and I want to install another site in a directory...but I am unable to do it. When I go to the subdirectory (www.example.com/subdirectory/) I only get the Drupal site from the root saying that the file can not be found. I'm sure I need to edit something.... .htaccess or something, but I'm not sure what.

Indeed the problem is with the .htaccess file.

Are you using SEF enabled in your Drupal?

If not, please just rename the .htaccess file to something else and try again.

Not sure if I'm using SEF or not. But I could just rename .htaccess file to anything???
