Hello,

The latest version of php we provide is php 5.1.6 and there will be no problem to have Moodle 1.7 installed on your account. If you would like to install Moodle yourself, you may have a look at the Moodle Installation Tutorial (http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/moodle/moodle_installation.htm). In any case, you may contact our Help Desk by posting an installation request.

5.1.6?! And I thought I was lucky just to finally have 5.0.5 installed on the server I'm on 10 days ago. Come to think of it, why would you install an older version on a new server when you support a newer version?

Well, we have servers with different versions of the php - 4.3, 4.4, 5.0, 5.1. We have different clients needing different versions of the php for their work. If your account is placed on a server with php 5.0.5 and you would like to use higher version, please contact our tech support team. What they will do is to transfer your account to another server providing the version you need.

I asked tech support about it, and they responded (With an obviously canned reply) that local php.ini files aren't supported on the server with PHP 5.1.6. So I decided against moving, at least for now. :(
I'm a PHP developer, which is why I'm interested in the newest versions, but some things just need local settings...

The server where my site is hosted is still running 5.05 after at least 6 months if not since I joined Siteground. I would like to run Moodle 1.6 or 1.7 and cannot as they need php 5.1 or higher. Can you transfer to another server running PHP 5.1+ for moodle 1.6 or 7 and if so does this cost us more money? Or will you be upgrading these older versions soon? We are a primary school trying to adhere to the Governments requirement of all schools having to have an e-learning platform and do not have pots of money to throw around.

You may contact the SiteGround Tech Support Team and place a request to move your account to another server. The latest version of php5 we support is 1.6
