Now that the original Mambo developer team is taking their Mambo CMS to a new and better direction which is now called Joomla. Will Siteground be moving to Joomla too? And if so, will you be providing exsisting Mambo users on your site an option to migrate to Joomla? Thanks

Good question. I have been asking it through the support ticketing system. I have been told they will support Joomla as an option once it is ready and it will be available via fantastico for installation.
However, there has been no answer about whether Joomla will install over Mambo. I think it will be a case by case situation depending on the version of Mambo we are using.
I must say thanks to you members, we learn some of the industry news. :) I was wondering do you know when we can expect to see the Joomla 1.0 for download? Once we have the chance to download and test it, we can be more specific about the migration and the support we will provide.

The download is now available. I'm interested in the basic differences betweem Mambo and Joomla. Is this first version of Joomla V1 almost identical to Mabbo V4.5.2? Anyone know the differences? I hope it's all it's cracked up to be!

Hi, guess we will have to look carefully at both versions to ascertain that. Can you post the download url here. Thanks! :)

Joomla 1.0 (http://developer.joomla.org/sf/frs/do/viewRelease/projects.joomla/frs.joomla_1_0.joomla_1_0_0)
Haven't downloaded just yet as I'm really happy with Mambo ... but if this is where the core developers went, then it's probably worth it! I'm very interested in feedback. I'm afraid this version may have been slapped together quickly and have some bugs lingering. Time will tell!

www.joomla.org (http://www.joomla.org) Joomla 1 is rebranded Mambo 4.5.2.3 but a much better version then the version Miro released, many fixed bugs etc. works great! It hasnt been "slapped together" this is the version they have been working on for months on the way to 4.5.3

Hello,
First time poster to these forums. Great comments / insights from everyone!!
NOTE: What follows below is a copy of a SUPPORT TICKET request that we sent in this evening. I encourage others to ask this question as well... as from what I'm seeing in the CMS community, there is not a lot of love for using both systems... its either one or the other. Period.
Hope this is of some encouragement or help to you as well... if you haven't seen the article quoted below, you should read it... GREAT quick update to whats going on.

What is the best channel to reach your management team to get an official statement from your company on the "fork in the road" for the Mambo / Joomla CMS community?
Also, if you haven't seen this article already, you might want to: http://www.devshed.com/c/a/BrainDump/Joomla-is-the-New-Mambo/
I'm looking at several development companies... and MOST are jumping ships from Mambo, stating that THEIR products / services (templates, etc.) will only work on the LAST version of mambo before this split (4.5.2.3) and Joomla 1+
I hope you can see how important this is to clients like myself, that came to your company through learning about Mambo to begin with.
I appreciate your assistance in this very important request.
Thanks again,
Errin.
I am a complete newbie to CMS and I asked the support team to install joomla for me and add the phpshop component at the same time.
Whilst I have had several issues with the installation (all bugs in the software) the support team here has excelled every time I have made a request for assistance.
Just so you know, there are now stable releases of both Joomla and mambo_phpshop available from their respective websites.
Once I get the bugs ironed out I am certain this was the righ direction to go.
Keep up the good work support team :o)
Thanks
Guns

I would like to have the option to migrate to Joomla, as this is where all of the development effort is taking place in the Open Source community. Many of the add ons I use (like the Gallery2 Component Add On) are already moved to Joomla. Also, the new/first release has all of the work that was happening for Mambo.
Perhaps you can contact someone at Joomla to see about the switch?
Joomla took a bunch of awards just recently.

Firstly thanks Creedworks for that link to Devshed which gives the background on the split. As far as migrating from Mambo to Joomla I think I posted elsewhere that Siteground will do it for you but I found many of my components no longer worked even though they were the latest versions (gallery, ezene, Simpleboard forum). I guess I could have asked Siteground to look at the errors and fix but I ended up switching back.
I too, would like Siteground to offer Joomla on Fantastico so that I can easily install myself and build the site from scratch.
