I am totally new at web design, developing and hosting.
What are the advantages of ASP.NET hosting to Linux based web hosting (http://www.siteground.com)?What are the technical requirements to do ASP.NET hosting.
What web-designing program is compatible with it?

Thank you.

Cheryl

Why not use the sitebuilder fron Siteground. It's easy and the tech guys will give you all the help you might need

If you are writing ASP.NET code, your primary host would be one that supports Microsoft's codebase (usually the web server will be IIS rather than Apache), and you will be able to write code that takes advantage of Mcrosoft's "vision" of the web. Custom programming hooks are available to folks whose primary programming language is not ASP but want to stay with Microsoft's vision.

If you write in PHP, you can be hosted on a Microsoft server, but the quality of support varies. Linux (and the Apache web server software) work exceptionally well with PHP and MySQL (database) - with the additional benefit that there is a large community of developers out here that give their work away for the benefit of all and the hosting providers (like Siteground) are often less expensive.

If you are thinking in terms of "I don't know anything about coding, or servers, or software, or databases, but I've a desire to be in the design/development business and I'm willing to learn", then do not use SiteBuilder for anything more than a tutorial on how web sites used to be built - CSS (cascading style sheets) and XHTML/XML tutorials are found in abundance, and the days of table-based markup are becoming numbered. Do not use FrontPage - it writes horrible code. Dreamweaver is expensive but worth it for use as an HTML editor for someone coming to this with a designer's eye that prefers a WYSIWYG environment; NVu is a free WYSIWYG tool.

Hope that helps!

Hi embudu, how do one contact the tech guy? I tried the "Contact Us" at the top-right hand corner, and it keeps bringing me to the "For Presales Question", and when i clicked on "For Technical Questions - Post a Ticket", it brings me to the member's log-in page. It just keep going round and round. Please advice. Thank you.

I would have to go with Rykkers with this one, especially staying away from teh likes of frontpage, tables...

If you are looking to code, then go with php to learn. Its easier to pick up, the solutions are cheaper for the hosting and you can use huge amounts of scripts/ open source available out there
