how do i get my homepage to show up by just putting the url and not the url and /home.html

how do i get my homepage to show up by just putting the url and not the url and /home.html
I am by no means a excellent programmer but I have found that the the home page is normally some version of index examples would be an index.html or index.php page thise would load automatically when you type in just the URL
