Well, I am at the point were I want to advertise online. So I was thinking SEO might be a vital area to advertise with, I have researched on a couple of SEO companies but still wanted an opinion of anybody that had success with it or total failure.
Thanks in advance! :)

I don't want to sound negative about SEO companies but most of them online will yeild negative ratings from google and other serps. If you do go with an seo company be sure to know what they are going to do BEFORE you go with them.
Also, there a bunch of great articals on SEO on the web. I did it myself and it paid off pretty well.

Hi - try www.webCEO.com - they have an excellent free download, provide you with a free certificated course, guarantee no nagging to update (true), provide excellent support with a dedicated 'angel' (true) and the user interface of the product is easy for me - so will be easy for anyone. I have found the course a must - it doesn't take long and you can control the pace.
I am just using the free download but am so impressed that I will probably upgrade to the SmallBiz package in 3 or 4 months.
I am still building my site with SiteGround and realised that I would have to learn something about SEO at the same time as the content and placing of words on the site is an important factor towards great results with search engines.
Anyway, try out WebCEO - nothing to lose, good luck

Having visited your site and viewed the source codes, on an immediate (as in right now) level, I most seriously suggest you add some Meta Tags to every last one of your pages, but at very least your home page.<br>
Try this: go to this one site of mine (Google PR4) <a href="http://www.jambas-emporium.com/" target="_blank">HERE</a>. View the source code on that main page. Please feel free to copy my own meta tags & paste them into your own web editor (I use notepad). They begin just after my title & end just before the scrollbar text. But please do make sure to replace my data with your own (ie.. your own keywords & description, authorship & copyright, etc) & adjust them for your own needs.<br>
I see that you have downloaded the WebCEO suggested by wildsorr. Seems to work for her & I hope it does for you too. But that takes a bit of time, whereas using my meta tags right now will give you a head-start till you get your new WebCEO course going & implemented. While you're at it, you might want to also add the DOCTYPE to your page(s) too ..it's the very first line of my source code.<br>Once you are happy with your site's tags & such, go list your site at <a href="http://dmoz.org/help/submit.html" target="_blank">DMOZ</a> (something I myself haven't gotten round to). <br>
ps .. I want to add that I totally agree with neednam's post (above).
The SEO process is quite long and to be honest a very difficult one. I do agree that most companies won't work for you and even they might hurt your site more than they will help you.
However, you should really know how the search engines works in order to use them as advertisers. Generally, Google is using a very complex technology to determine the ranks of crawled sites. Having lot of sites linking to you ( i.e have working and visible links to you), with which your site share the same content or topic is the best way to climb up with PR, but you should be careful to who are you linking too. Linking to warez/hackers/adult/ etc. sites will bring your PR down for a long time. Having your site registered and submitted to DMOZ directory, is a very good idea. Google (and most of the big SE) visits DMOZ often and because DMOZ have good PR, your site PR will go up with several points.
If you are going to be self promoting, your best bet will be to place some kind of links-exchange program. And if you don't want (or can't) spare a lot of time, consider hiring a SEO guy from any freelancing forum. From my own personal experience I know those guys do their work and will charge you far less than a SEO company will.

dmoz is hand edited and moderated, so it has a huge amount of credibility with the serps. ;)
When I did my SEO for my general static pages and then finally my forum (phpbb) it ended up being about three months of daily work. It is not for the faint of heart...
This always a good place to start (http://www.google.com/webmasters/seo.html).

The best approache would be to not use any SEO company. It is best if you do it all your self. You won't get it right the first time, but as me you are most likely to learn as you go. If you read up on forums and sites that offer seo tutorials then you will soon get the hang of it and before you know it you will start getting good rankings.
I think that learning seo yourself is the best way to go when it comes to getting and improving your sites search engine rankings.

I totally agreed that to rely on yourself is much better. The more knowledge you learn, the better you will become. However the problems is that people are just lazy and that was why many quit half way. Free information about SEO can be the search engine. Just perform a search and be patient. Sooner or later you become an expert.

I personally think you need to find a good SEO Company to deal with your SEO work..
It is not easy to find a good SEO company... here is some tips..
- Check their sample works(top ranking clients with very competitive search terms)..and contact those clients..(A lot of SEO companies out there shows some other SEO company's work as of their work)
- Do not invest a lot of upfront money.. try to deal month to month..no long term agreement...
- Expect them to Guarantee their work...ok nobody can Guarantee top rankings..But they can fix their charges according to the rankings they provide..
- Ask your SEO company to focus on lead generating search terms ..not some tricky search terms.. you can check inventory.overture.com to have some idea about search terms in ur industry...At the end you need leads, not just top rankings...
- ............. and some more.........
SEO is not a basic job especially in your industry. If you were in a less competitive industry, I was going to agree with others..
Spending a couple hours a day would be enough to handle your SEO in that case...
Asking you to leave all your real estate businesses and become an SEO expert does not sound right to me...But you need to know the basics to have some idea about SEO services...

i think it would be quite helpful if people posted names of certain SEO companies out there which are known as bad and "dangerous". yet i didn't make any experience with any SEO companies, neither good or bad, but i'm starting to think about contacting such a company as linkbuilding takes a lot of time
