Joomla Winter Template

I have a quick question about the joomla winter template. Is there a way to have menu's on both left and right? I have tried to place a link for an component or module on the right or top and they only show up on the left. They never appear when I put them anywhere else but left.

I am afraid that cloning the menu will not be possible, as the template was designed with only one menu column.
