View Full Version : Is Flash 'FLV' considered streaming video?

I have a client that wants to display videos using a Flash player that calls a FLV file. I can not get the video to play, unless I put the FLV file on another non-SG server and then call the video from there.

I know SG does not allow streaming video on shared hosting accounts, does anyone know if SG considers FLV streaming video?

I thinking that's the issues, but am just looking for confirmation. If someone knows a way to make it work, I'm all ears.

Thanks!
Chris

Hi Chris,

Basically, FLV is not counted as streaming and should be allowed to work (at least I think so, because we have other customers using it).

You can open a trouble ticket and ask the tech guys to help you. I am pretty sure the reason for not woriking will popup soon :)

Thanks Mike, that's what I originally thought myself.

I did open a ticket when I was troubleshooting this and was told streaming video was not allowed and the ticket was closed. I took that as SG consided FLV as a "streaming media". This didn't really make sense to me, so I posted in here to see if anyone else is using or tried to use FLV files.

The reason for it not working, is obviously a server configuration. I moved the FLV around to two different SG servers that I have accounts on and the file would not play. As soon as I hosted teh FLV file on another host, it worked fine. :(

Thanks again for the reply

Chris
