Cannot install Joomla 1.6

Hi,
I am trying to install joomla 1.6 manually on my siteground site. I have got to the database configuration stage but am getting the error Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: Unable to connect to the Database: Could not connect to MySQL.

I have looked at this help page http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/joomla15/common_issues.htm#database but it doesn't help me because I can't find my configuration.php file ... the only one I can find is in the installation directory and that has nothing that looks like the lines var $dbtype = 'mysql'; etc.

My host name is set to loclahost as suggested by other replies on this forum.

I am a serious beginner (if you couldn't already tell :)

Apologies ... I had a typo in my database name ... its fixed now ... duh ...

Also, the script is already included in cPanel->Fantastico. If you are a SiteGround customer you can install it using this tool.
