Hello everyone I've installed Joomla to my website and I've been told repeatedly that I should back it up. I haven't found out how to do this though.

1. How do I backup my website? Does this simply mean logging into FileZilla manually downloading every file in the Public HTML folder and then when I need to return my website to its earlier condition, I just put all those files back on the server?

2. Does deleting everything from the Public HTML folder and then putting the contents of a previously working Joomla website work like that? Or, am I going to run into problems?

Let me address your questions one by one:

1. Yes, generally this is what has to be done. More information on how to backup your files and databases can be found in our tutorial here (http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/cpanel/backup.htm).

2. You should be very careful what you are removing from your public_html folder, because you might delete the wrong files and then any subdomains and applications installed in subfolders will no longer function.

You can also use a component called joomlapack to backup your joomla site.

It will create a installable backup of your site..

Its a bit buggy (eg the compreesed sql dump file can often be corrupted) with regards to dumping large databases in the full site mode however it does have a seperate option for just doing a database dump which works fine.

Give it a try
