OE has an apparent 2GB (2^(32-1)) file limit. If your files exceed 2GB OE will give spurious error messages. If OE suddenly recieves mail but will not send mail, check size of "sent items" folder.
Hints: 1)search for *.dbx files (use "show hidden or system files" in advanced search
2) the files are in different link chains for "primary" vs. additional users
3) in OE under "EDIT" tab, use "empty deleted files"
4) delete mails in "sent items"
5) compact "sent items"
6) do "empty deleted files" again
7) compact "deleted files"
A quick check to see if this is your problem is to remove all emails stacked in "outbox" , then compose and send a very small message. If it works fine, you prob. have the 2GB problem.
