Advantageous of VPS Hosting Over Shared and Dedicated Server Hosting
I had complied list of advantageous of VPS hosting over shared and dedicated hosting, which might be helpful to those who are looking for a VPS hosting.
VPS hosting provide many advantageous to a webmaster because it can provide 100% airtime and an unfailing service to the customer. Normally one looks for VPS due to either of the following reasons, resources available in the shared hosting are inadequate, poor performance of shared hosting or for getting better control on software’s installed on server without going for dedicated server.
Usually shared hosting are less stable because of sharing of available resources by hundreds of websites hosted in the same server. Sharing of resources in competitive environment slower the performance of server.
VPS (Virtual Private Server) created using one powerful and reliable server which in turn split in to numbers of virtual servers at hardware or software level then each of the virtual server acts as an independent and separate dedicated server. So virtually you are getting full access on root level with better customization mostly available dedicated servers without being effected by poor performance of shared hosting. VPS can run an entire operating system on its own and having the option of rebooted independently. That means it having the features of single server and can function as a separate server.
Key benefit of going for VPS is one get root level access to your server to install or delete any software, create any accounts, set permission, effectively all the same things you can do on a dedicated server at a cost comparable to shared hosting services.
All are welcome to share any additional points might be missing in the thread, then same can be updated.
I believe that you have to give an example of the difference in pricing for VPS and Dedicated Server Hosting. You probably get almost the same kind of hardware specs on both cases but the price for VPS is usually 1/4 or less of the Dedicated Server Hosting pricing.
Thats a nice write up.But,for mission critical website/s and businesses,a dedicated server is what is highly recommended. You being the only user on the entire server face much lesser risk of data thefts and attacks. With a dedicated server you have the privilege to install any application and script, even if something goes wrong,no other user is affected and hence the webhost too would hardly force any restiction in the server usage.
But as far as price is concerned, the VPS is much cheaper than dedicated servers,at the same time you are not given the complete leverage to use the VPS as per your requirements. Most of the resource intensive application are not allowed to be installed onto a VPS as this may create problems for other users hosted onto the same server.
Though with both the servers you get root access but setting permissions on a VPS is what you need to first confirm with the host.
if you have enough $$$, why not dedicated hosting?
If you are looking at shared hosting verses vps hosting you there are many differences. Let me begin with Shared Hosting.
Shared Hosting (commonly referred to as ‘Virtual hosting’ and ‘Budget Hosting’) is the most popular form of hosting and refers to web hosting services where many websites reside on one web server and share the same internet connection.
1. Shared Hosting Cost: $3.33 per month and $20 per month depending on your plan
2. Shared hosting is great for small websites
3. Shared hosting is great for those not very familiar with the hosting and usually has plenty of tutorials and online support.
1. Security: with shared hosting your risk of security threats is higher because of being on the same server as other people. (Sometimes 1000 at a time)
2. Your Website may not not load as fast because you are sharing bandwidth with others.
VPS Hosting - refers to a single space on a server offered to the customer for their information only. A client leases a portion of a dedicated server that is solely for that client’s information. The memory and disk space can be allocated for each customer.
1. Cost Less than Dedicated Server
2. Less People on the Same Server. (Less of a security risk)
3. Great for people familiar with hosting technology
4. Great for websites that need more memory, bandwidth, diskspace, and security
1. Not as secure as a dedicated server
I agree that the ultimo is a dedicated server. But only if you can afford it and expect to grow from it further. The advantages of VPS over shared hosting is obvious and I think you named them perfectly. One is missing however and may be less obvious: Much better customer service. Personally I found the support a lot more personalized after I switched to a VPS, as a matter of fact I have my own support ticket account. The responses are very fast and more in-depth than before. Hardly a week goes by without having a nice informative conversation with one of the "guys".
Shared hosting is very general and low cost type of content hosting. It is known as “shared” because many websites and many database and email users share one server hardware. Hosting technology is very well developed and permit single servers to be shared with many customers without breach of security of individual websites. Generally user utilize a “control panel” that permit them to add domains, create websites and access their files from a browser.
Dedicated hosting is very costly than shared, completely due to the fact that in place of hundreds of users sharing the common server, the server is dedicated to one users. This users has total administrator access to the server and is generally liable for server security maintenance, updates and server backups.
Shared is Better than dedicated.
Unless there a particular requirement for a dedicated server hosting, shared hosting is much more better option for many websites. With shared hosting user get more support, free server maintenance, server backups and server monitoring. Let me explain this a little further. With shared server, web hosting companies are liable for the uptime of all websites hosted that every machine. And to maintain that, they normally perform the following maintenance tasks on shared servers:
Hardware observation – for example observing out for RAM downfall, hard drives, etc.
Software observation – make sure that web server, database, email services keep to run.
Service observation – if web server becomes not responding, unsuccessful services are unintentionally restarted and service logs investigated in order to fix the issue and prevent it from happening in the future.
Powerful account management tools, adding data backup and restoration features.
The biggest advantage VPS hosting has over shared hosting is that it is secure and provides more control to the user.
Its advantage over dedicated hosting is that it is cheap.
So, VPS hosting is far better than shared hosting in terms of privileges, and better than dedicated hosting in terms of price.
