    Default New Dutch Servers

    Hi

Apologies if wrong place to ask. I just recived an email from SG informing me of new Euopean based servers in Amsterdam. For me, very interesting, as most if not all of my customers or potential customers are European. However, I just wanted to know specifically how much this will improve things - is it worth the money to change?

I seem to remember a thread, cant remember if on SG forum, where European customer were asking if having their websites on servers in the US would have a negative impact on load times etc. As I understood it, it would be hardly noticable.

I am by no means an expert on this, but on the face of it moving to Europe for me makes sense.

    Many thanks for any advice.

    Hello Costa,

For more details about our servers in Amsterdam please check the following blog post:

As for the loading speed of your websites, I would like to clarify that in most cases it will be affected but a human being cannot notice the difference. I personally think that the more important aspect is the availability of your websites. When you access your site and it is hosted in the US the connection is routed via many upstream providers until it reaches the destination server. Sometimes these upstream networks may not be available and in such cases the connection have to be rerouted. When this happens the website will load slower than usual or it will not load at all. If you are in Spain and your website is hosted on a server in Amsterdam such issues will never occur because major Internet Service Providers use many backup links. This means that packets will not be routed from Europe to USA and in 99.9% of the time your clients will be able to open your websites.
