Numbers in URLs - Will it affect SEO

Hi All. I am struggling with something that should be a simple problem to sort out but can't seem to find the answer.

I have added four articles to my small joomla website. http://www.wayneswebworld.co.uk I have named the Articles 'SEO Middlesbrough' etc. I have also named the menu item and the category SEO Middlesbrough.

However, the link is forming like this http://wayneswebworld.co.uk/middlesb...ation-teesside

You will notice the number 31 in the URL. Two questions then.

Will google like this or not? Or will I be penalised for this.
If so how do I change this as I have noticed this on other Joomla sites.

Hi,

I'd advise you to take a look at this plugin. It will remove the unnecessary symbols from your urls

Nope it wont affect. But i would advice you to go with the keyword in the URL, because Having keywords in URL would help in good ranking in search engines. For eg if your site is based on mobile phones then you can add the keyword mobile phone to your URL.

I like to use plugins to avoid all the unnecessary numbers and symbols in my urls. I also usually have them with .html at the end but that doesn't really help seo but its my preference

with the category and then the article name showing your url's are becoming quite long. This is another thing about using an SEF plugin that is good, urls that are too long is like keyword stuffing to search engines- BAD

Which version of Joomla are you using? 1.5, 2.5 or 3.0. Native SEO features are pretty good in 1.6 upwards but if you like more customization than would recommend SH404SEO. There are also free SEO extension but this one has the most features.
