    Default General Siteground Questions

There doesnt seem to be an apropriet forum for this inquiry... Odd really.....

ANyway, I'm thinking of starting up a website with Forum community. Basic Main paige kinda setup wth News, information, Maybe a review here and there. Forums will be the focus....

    Heres what I want...

Basic Home page that I can taylor to my personal taste/look/content.

Full Featured Forum with multiple levels of access.

pop3 email accounts that I can provide for my community users. Not for everythone mind you. I cant ever see needing more than 100

Basic File transfer access for Game Demos, Patches, and utilties. Again this shouldnt be any significant bandwidth.

Picture Gallery where a limited amount of my users can host their signatures and I can host my own server graphics and such.... Screenshot of the day kinda thing....

    No, or limited advertisments.

I would be a new webmaster so simplicity in the beginning is crucial, I am a Control Interface programmer by day so eventually as time permits I'd like to ability to fully customize the site.

Siteground seems like a great choice for me... Is it?

Lots of different Forum choices.... Is one clearly better than another?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

(Oh yeah.. How come I cannot find a link to these forums on your home page???????)

Sounds good, it would be a gaming site/forum, right?

I would suggest vBulletin. SiteGround uses it as our forums and we are pretty happy about it. However, it is commercial and you would have to pay for it.

If you are looking for a free forum, consider using either phpBB and SMF. Both are good enough, thus phpBB has security fixes more often,

Good luck with your site, you might post an URL in the website reviews category

I just set up phpBB for forums on our site. I agree that vBulletin is preferrable; the phpBB administration tools are a little odd compared to what I'm used to with vBulletin. However, phpBB does work reasonably well. I've just had to install a ton of "MODs" to get the functionality I wanted.

As for a photo gallery, I really like Gallery and run it on my personal site.

The pop3 management may be a little messy with 100 e-mail accounts all listed on the same setup page, but it should work for you.
