Hello all...
I have struggled through several attempts at building my own template and using downloaded templates with no success. I am looking to have a very simple design with a header, breadcrumbs and search; below that I just need three columnized menus (one for Hardware, one for Software, and one for General). These menus should live on every page and the content below will be based on what the user chooses from the menu. For example, if the user is coming to our HelpDesk Intranet for problems with their laptop, they would click on the Hardware column and see the menu expand a to a submenu list like 'Desktops, Laptops, Printers, Other'. From there, they would click on Laptop; another submenu would expand with 'FAQ, Issues, Contact Us'. Based on what they pick from there, the content below would propagate with article links. I tried using a template and using left, user1 and user2 as the menus, but when I associated mod_mainmenu with each component, all three columns showed the full menus. I have spent hours trying to figure out how to make left the Hardware menu, user1 the Software menu, and user2 the General menu. Any ideas?? Regards, Johnny |

Hello Johnny,
Please, specify the template, which you have been trying to implement this with, so that we can in turn attempt to reproduce the problem and provide you with more detailed instructions for resolving the problem, in case it is caused by non-defined positions within the template's files. Also a screen-shot of what you are trying to ultimately achieve would help too.

I grabbed a free template at http://www.redevolution.com/joomla-templates/ called RedEvo Allium for Joomla 1.5. I will try to put together a screenshot, but I am not very good with graphics. All that I need is a header with some basic links like Home and Contact Us, breadcrumbs, then three separate menus horizontally (like it looks in the RedEvo Allium screenshot). I will not be using a left or right vertical menu, but the body should populate based on the choices made in the menus.
The problem that I have had with that template is that the three distinct menus which I am trying to create (hardware, software, and general) are all appearing in all three areas as mod_mainmenu items. I need them to appear distinct from one another. |

Hello Johnny,
I reviewed the specified template's demo and noticed that each of the three menus is published as a separate module. Joomla provides no built-in functionality for triggering a module dynamically based on an action performed in another module of the application. Therefore I recommend you to use a third party menu system with extended functionality and implement your 3-part dynamic menu with it. Examples of such menu systems can be found at the following URL: http://extensions.joomla.org/index.p...=1788&Itemid=2 If none of the menu systems matches your needs then you should contact a developer, which possesses the required programming knowledge for implementing a custom solution for you.
