Default Putting in images (or text) without using modules

I'm trying to figure out how to add an image (or even text) into a page where the modules usually live but not using a module or component (I think).

Like this site http://www.mambomates.com/ on the top right hand side, it has an ad which doesn't seem to be created with a mod, but has a consistent menu title etc. The one below it is created with the 'partner' component but that requires text with the image (you can't just have an image it seems) and I don't always want it 'clickable'.

Does anyone know how this is done? Do I just edit the index.php in the template and hard code the addition?

This one from

http://www.mambomates.com/

at the upper right corner is hardcoded with the template itself. It is not a component or a menu. It is just the people who made the template, made it so it stays there. It will always stay there, no matter what else is published or unpublished, and the only way to be removed is to remove it from the template itself.

It also cannot be moved from right to left as easily as a mambo module can for example.

I am sure there is a mambo module that can do exactly the same thing, however I cannot direct you to a certain one at the moment.

If you plan to have such banner though, and is fine with you that it will not move etc, you can hardcode it in your template too

Thanks Tom,
I thought it might be hardcoded...Mambo is so clever that you get to expect that there will be a module to do everything you want (at least I do).
cheers,
