Default New cPanel Theme on SiteGround.com or simply Crystal

We are pleased to announce the New cPanel Theme our team has created for all SiteGround users. The theme is customized to meet SiteGround customers’ needs and help them better and more easily manage their hosting accounts. We hope that the new theme will make your hosting experience more pleasant and interesting!

Here at SiteGround we call the theme Crystal as it is clear, well-arranged, and concise and at the same time providing all information you need in a speedy, convenient and accessible way.

Today we launched Crystal Beta Version. Check the videos below to see the details:

1. New design of the cPanel theme

2. Brand new analytical instruments

3. Tools and tips for direct account management

We hope that with Crystal your web hosting experience will be much easier and more pleasant.

If you are a SiteGround reseller, do not worry! We have modified the new theme for our resellers’ needs. All tools/links which point to SiteGround are not present in Crystal for reseller accounts. The theme will still have all the useful tools but without any of the materials referring to SiteGround.

Hi Anatoli

Many thanks to support for installing the beta on my account.

I have been using the cpanel and do have a couple of issues/bugs/feedback.

Would it be best to post a ticket with the issues or post them on this thread?

Its not urgent, just feedback

Regards

Costa

Ok, many thanks.

When first accessing the Cpanel all is well, but after clicking on one of the functions (any one it seems) and returning back to the main control panel, all the graphs (processes, disk usage, cpu usage etc) are all on full with no actual usage information. The only way to get back the graphs seems to be log out and back in again.

Thanks in advance

Costa

Edit..... I've also found that this occures on the demo set up siteground248.com/cpanel

I agree on your point about a helpdesk link. With every new design you have made, it gets harder and harder to get to an actual person in the helpdesk.

Although I do not like all the limits being placed on our accounts and feel that some of them are excessively low, I would like to applaud SG for being the first webhost that is up front about their limits - most other webhosts hide them in the TOS and shut off accounts for "too much" use - SG has put a number on it and easy way to monitor it.

Also, "Optimization Tips" does not belong under "Security" IMO.

I also worry a bit about the 20 process limit. While using the demo, there were 7 cpanel "unkillable" processes running. With a busy forum with 10 users posting or reading, this number would skyrocket quickly.

I also think that the limit you have placed on the number of scripts that may be executed per hour/day is a bit small. If a "script execution" counts as 1 PHP script running 1 time, then just loading a wordpress blog homepage would pull 50 or so scripts as it loads all the include files, styles, widgets, posts, database pulls, and more.

I think some serious testing should be put in to consideration before those numbers go full time. OR, if those numbers have already been in place, work on how they are presented.

I worry the most about the 20 process limit however, as I never realized how quickly this number can go up and down. I look forward to personally testing it on my account.

The executions stats represent each single hit on the customer's web page.

If we take for an example hit on your blog's index page in order to finish its job your index indeed calls its external libraries, styles, plugins etc.

However we do not count the calls to those files/libs/scripts as additional executions due to the fact that we actually executed only one PHP script - your blog's index page.

If we are willing to count the calls to all files required for an PHP script to finish its task as executions we will flood the customer with them. Even a simple <? echo hello world ?> program sends thousands of system calls in order to get its user/group info, to load all system core libs, those libs then need other libs, then the php binary opens additional libs etc. We do not want that.

The thing we are trying to achieve is to show to our valued customers how much scripts their site executed for the last hour, day and week and to show this information in a user friendly and meaningful format. The demo does not show much graph info but on a busy site the data looks something like mrtg graphs but much better

I hope that I was able to assist you for better understanding our executions graphs

Hello Costa,

Thank you for your feedback. This bug has been corrected already. The theme footer link to the home index page was wrong. This has been fixed. Please let me know your account domain name, so that I can apply the fix to your account as well.

Good news today: we just added 2 more features to Crystal:

1. HDD usage stats - you will find the link right below the Disk Space usage stats. It will give you an insight what amount of the HDD has been used by your account/hour for the last 48 hours.

2. Direct link to SiteBuilder - you will find it in the Software section. This link will lead you directly to the SiteBuilder application from where you can easily start working on your website.

We hope you will like them. Do not hesitate to let us know if you have any feedback and/or recommendations about Crystal!

Many thanks for installing the beta on my account.

So far everything looks great, no functional issues. the HDD usage weekly graph is a flat line but I was expecting that as I don't think that plugin started tracking until installation today, will check that..... in a week or two duh!

all other statistical plugins are working and should just keep getting better and better.

I think upon rollout some newer users may be frightened by all of the limits on this thing, so you may want to include an orientation guide at the top of the cpanel up in the box where free hosting is it should say "cPanel Welcome Tutorial" or something like that.

Thanks for the feedback, alin0s. I am glad to hear you like the new them . Surely we will continue to work towards more and more improvements on it.

About your note, I have included it already in my all mighty "cPanel improvements and redesign" task list . I also thought about this, that some users might be a bit scared on all these limitations. The good part, though, is that all they are put in the daylight, which is actually our main aim - to have no hidden limitations. Many customers miss to read our ToS upon sign up, that is why we put these on a place, where everybody can notice them (so there are no surprises afterwards).

We will prepare a nice article/tutorial that explains all those limitations, although we have few KnowledgeBase articles regarding this topic.

Thanks again and keep giving us your great ideas. Of course, this addresses all other visitors of this thread.

If you have not requested installation it is unlikely you will have it by default. Please request installation.

Hi alin0s

Yes, its already installed, but I am thinking that the extra features must be manually updated by SG. Maybe they have forgot about me ;-)

Thanks

Costa

Ps, welcome to the forum :-)

Are you SG support or something?
(just wondering. not trying to sound rude)

SG, I have opened a ticket to request it installed on my cpanel account so I can begin monitoring the new stats before they go into effect. I am not sure how my performance will be when the transition happens.

Nope, just an experienced user of SG services, so I know where to go when help is needed.

The performance could be affected by the transition, as with any beta software you are assuming that your cPanel is not of utmost importance to you and may fail at times and may screw up. Hence BETA.

If you actively use cPanel daily to do many things at once, try to veer away from Beta releases just to be safe, not saying this one has had any bugs that I have seen from my heavy use but mileage varies per server. If you think of cPanel as "Meh, if it's down it's down, and its just something to fix' Then your a beta tester type!

Im never in my cP for my SG website anymore. So I wanted to test it out. So yeah. I know about beta testing.
Oh, and cPanel down is not the best place. That just bogs them down in that department. Other cPanel issues is where I opened mine. Dont flood the support with "high priority" issues

SG, Ive found a bug in the new HDD stats. If you click on the graph, it redirects you to some weird website called maaniDOTus/xml_charts/

I use my cP for a lot of things usually a daily basis, i track statistics, watch my FTP usages, make sure my friends whom i host stay in line with their contract.

Yeah, Other cPanel is what I meant to say :P Sorry.

That redirect is unusual because I didn't have that redirect on my SG.
