Many of you are acquainted with Fantastico, the automatic application installer. Unfortunately it lacks some popular apps like Magento.
That's why we have decided to use cPanel's cPaddons and create installations for the following apps: - Magento - vTiger - SugarCRM - MediaWiki Along with that we have included the official Dolphin cPaddon release. You are able to find these installations in cPanel, Site Software. We have gone through a lot of debugging and now it is time for some public testing. That's why your help will be appreciated. Some points to make: - We do think about possible upgrades. However, we will be limited by cPaddons options and not all applications can have automatic upgrades. In this connection backups will have to be created manually prior to upgrades because the cPaddons don't have such features; - For the next few months we will not add new applications and will focus on these. Only after we have made sure these work flawlessly we can consider adding new ones. - Fantastico will remain and we plan to support it in the future too. Any feedback will be much appreciated.

I guess the new installer came after I had already installed Dolphin on my site. Dolphin and Ray Suite are working great on my site. If you use Ray Suite, it requires you to connect to a RMS (Ray Media Server) and the one that is free with the scripts is always busy. The only thing that I would say might help out Siteground's customers with Ray Media Server is to let the customers know that Voice and Video chat may not be a "free" option, as many people that have set up those servers charge for their use. The customer could make their own personal Server for Ray Suite's use. It's not hard, but if the customers already had a server, why would they need Siteground? So possibly consider a Ray Media Server hosted by Siteground? Just an idea.
Thanks for adding the new site software installer! |

Thanks for the idea about the Ray Media Server. I have taken a look at it and I will forward it to our admins. However, I am not sure we will be able to offer it in the near future because it is quite different from the webhosting services we have specialized in.

Another minor update - we have just updated Magento to the latest version 1.3.1.
If you have installed 1.3.0 before there will be an option to automatically upgrade to the latest version

Update: The first stage went successfully. We have fixed some bugs and made sure everything works fine.
Now we are adding more applications. We have already added AEF board , which is a great forum. Also now we are open to new application suggestions

I have just installed Magento from the cPanel installer. However after instal, I have the following error - "Whoops, it looks like you have an invalid PHP version. Magento supports PHP 5.2.0 or newer. Find out how to install Magento using PHP-CGI as a work-around." I have just checked my php version and I am running 5.2.6? Any advice appreciated. I havent spent much time researching Magento as yet. I just installed it to test/evaluate, so no priority with the issue. Thanks Costa |

Costa's problem is as follows:
Currently all our servers have PHP version 4.*, 5, 5.1 and 5.2. If a server has been set up initially with php 4 as default, it remains this way for all old accounts. This is for obvious reasons - many applications work with PHP 4 and a global upgrade may corrupt them. All new accounts on these servers are set up with PHP 5.2. Costa's account (and many others) has been set with PHP 4 initially and that's how it has remained. This means that there is a file .htaccess in his home directory with the following line: AddHandler application/x-httpd-php4 .php .php3 .php4 .php5 .phtml However Magento requires PHP 5.2 and will not work with previous PHP versions. This can be easily fixed by adding the following line to the .htaccess file in your Magento directory: AddHandler application/x-httpd-php52 .php If anyone has problems with this, please contact the support and we will set it for you

Hello Anatoli, I like Siteground a lot. Since you are now open to new application suggestions , how about Smartermail Webmail. It's far better than Roundcube or Squirrelmail. Also, I really like Dolphin, However, we Really need a way to run Ray media server. That would make Dolphin work completely. Thanks Pete

Hi petesgalaxy,
We will have to wait for SmarterMail to appear in cPanel first. This is because a webmail is much tighter integrated with the server's software and here we are limited with cPanel. As for the Ray media server, it requires a customer server setup and quite a lot of resources. Thus we can hardly implement it on a shared web hosting server. Still, we will have it in mind

It isnt hard to install scripts...
Just do this: Upload, extract, enter each folders, if there are php html or any other coded pages, then that is the site, copy them, run installer, tada... Installer may be different from each software... |
