When it comes to website building I am at the level just below a novice/beginner. I really have no idea as to what I am doing. But, with the help of the sitebuilder program I have gotten our Church's website up and running.
My Question is this....I have recently started recording our sermons, and I am planning on posting them on the site....only problem is, I don't have the slightest idea as to what steps to take. Can anyone help me with this? In Gods Grace, Joe |

Well what are you recording your messages on? Tape? CD? Directly on PC? Some how get it on your pc. save it via a good audio editing program, sonic foundry, gold wave. Then decide if you want to stream them or have them for download. Most people do both. To stream you want the file as small as possible. If your sermons are like 60 min long consider splitting them into 30 min parts. Then you will want to save the files at a lower bit rate so people will be able to click and listen quickly. anywhere from 32-64 kb per seconds is suggested. use those settings if there is just one voice as music will sound very bad!!! the voice quality will not be the greatest but visitors will be able to quickly listen to the access. You might want to save it as 2 different audio files. usually people save as Windows Media Audio (wma) or Real Audio (ram) both give better compression the mp3 format. So in summary provide 2 different formats of streaming audio, real and wma. For the download version save it as a mp3 at 128 kb per seconds or higher depending on how good you want it to sound. (160 kb per second is "CD Quality". )
Next get the audio on your site. Using your FTP manager create a folder under your public_html folder called media. create another folder under media and call it the name of the sermon or date. the date is the easiest to remember. remember KISS keep it simple stupid! dont put a really long file name on your audio. keep it short as possible and no spaces! like jonsmith_9-2-05.mp3 Upload the audio to its respective folders. You might want to create "streaming" and "download" sub folders in each topic section. Then just create a html link *a href="media/friendship/streaming/jonsmith_9-2-05.wma">Listen With Windows Media Player*/a> *=add < You might want to add a link to the different media players you use so visitors can download the software to listen to the files just in case. feel free to pm me if you need to or email !!! |
