I'd recommend you to try WordPress + WooCommerce. It's worth giving it a try!

I personally use WooCommerce for my personal WordPress sites. You can see one example of a WooCommerce setup I did for selling Excel templates at http://plexkits.com. That site is exclusively digital downloads and the theme that was used supported WC specifically.

I can say though that WC isn't perfect and I can't comment on a cart for physical items. But I've played around a bit with Magneto and have really liked it. I think I for my next client's site I will give it a try if they are looking for a more robust solution. A lot of people on the thread mention OpenCart which I actually don't know very much about, but I will definitely go check it out.

If everyone else on this thread is like me, deciding on something like a shopping cart is a huge decision, and one that I constantly second guess because it could have a large impact on the success of your business (IMO). I would love to hear what more people have to say and which carts/ecommerce integrations they prefer.

I had never heard of Forward before. I just checked it out and it looks very promising. Although it's only in Alpha stage (v0.1) so it might not be for everyone, especially if you are developing a site for a client. But if you are building your own site, it's definitely worth a look. It claims to be 50-100 times faster than Magneto out of the box. I'll definitely have to check this out. Thanks for the recommendation!

Opencart is simple to use, presta shop has some great themes and is easy to use as well. Its out of the box theme looks great.

I'd go for Magento. I've been using it along with finestshops hosting for several years, and they both work great for me. I recommend Magento
